خلاصه مقاله:
Alfred Lord Tennyson’s famously known poem “Ulysses” rehabilitates Homer’s hero in the Modern world. Since modernity is marked by restrictive hopelessness, Ulysses is urged by his innate features to re-capture the prowess he once had in his youth and to rescue the world around. However, according to the Swiss psychiatrist, Carl Gustav Jung, when entered in the final phase of life, the individual’s soul yearns composure; however Ulysses in his “old age” struggles to empower himself physically and rejuvenate his power solidly. Ulysses’s mental struggles are unraveled according to Jung’s theory and analysis leads to the fact that aging is a natural, pleasant, and useful stage of life in contrast to the popular thought that considers “old age” as a venue of weakness in which the person should await demise. Since this theory of Jung is used less frequently than others, this study aims to interpret it, analyze it, and sees the hero Ulysses differently from its goggles to deconstruct the pejorative assumptions of “old age” and assign power to this particular phase
