As the world's population grows, the need for energy increases. Therefore, to reduce energy consumption in the residential sector, IoT is used in current home technology, due to its significant potential to create an energy management system for homes. This technology enables faster and more efficient interaction between users and the public and private environments, especially in the home environment, which makes people's lives easier and better. This paper investigates topics such as the concept of smart home and IoT-based smart home automation systems and technologies, the advantages and disadvantages of any current technology and available product in the market, obstacles, challenges, future trends in technologies, and the roles of users.
