خلاصه مقاله:
Modern man has been defined as a creature entangled in a conflict between self and the social factors imposed upon him/her by discourses. The life of such an entity is full of bewilderments including uncertainty and frustration. From this perspective, Sadegh Hedayat, one of the earliest Iranian authors to adopt modernism, presents such miseries in his renowned short story, “Buried Alive”. Through the story, which is a reflection of his own life, Hedayat narrates some touches of the melancholy of modern man like disparity and meaninglessness. In other words, “Buried Alive” is the non-chronological story of self and society. It deals with alienated people who have taken shelter in the ruined and hopeless boundaries of the modern era, and various aspects of this ‘etherization’, mainly meaninglessness and passivity, are clearly depicted. Therefore, the researcher in this study tries to examine different reasons behind modern man’s confusions in Sadegh Hedayat's “Buried Alive”..
