خلاصه مقاله:
In minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) method, cutting fluid is atomized and injected to the cutting zone via compressed air, reducing the friction and cutting temperature in the cutting zone. Among the MQL parameters, the flow rate of cutting fluid is one of the most important factors affecting the overall cooling/lubrication performance. To control the fluid flow rate in MQL application, multiple manufacturers have provided professional equipment designed for minimum quantity lubrication. As well as professional MQL equipment, other devices can also be used to control fluid’s flow rate in MQL application namely syringe pumps. This article briefly investigates the advantages and disadvantages of using syringe pumps for controlling cutting fluid flow rate as well as some of the most famous commercial MQL systems used in industrial and scientific applications and introduces a new system based on syringe pumps. In this design, a linear motion mechanism, moves the piston of a double-acting cylinder, pumping cutting fluid to the atomizing nozzle. The designed system is advantageous over positive displacement micro-pumps in case of wear and fluid pulsation problem. It is also advantageous over air-pressurized fluid tank in case of accuracy as well as syringe pumps in case of repeatability, industrial-grade reliability, and price.
