The three-component atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) initiating system contains an organohalide-type initiator, catalyst in the form of a salt of transition metal in the lower oxidation state and a complexing ligand based mostly on amine- type (Scheme 1). The combination of a catalyst and an appropriate ligand affects the redox potential of the system, leading to the equilibrium between dormant and active forms of growing chains, which minimize an extent of termination reactions
