a novel surface modifying technique friction stir processing FSP has been developed for fabrication of surface composite based on the friction stir welding FSW technique the newly developed FSP technique uses a non consumable tool which penetrates in the metal surface plasticize the base metal and mixes a powder with the metal to produce metal matrix composite MMC layer on the substrate.in this study commercial SiC POWDER WAS SUCCESSFULLY DISPERSED INTO CU using friction stir processing FSP distribution of the SIC powder was changed on the basis of the travel speed of the FSP tool . grain size of the SiC /Cu surface composite found smaller than of the FSPed cu without SiCP.
