The adducts produced in the reaction between trialkyl phosphites and acetylenic esters were trapped by hydantoins to produce highly functionalized dialkyl ۲-(۲,۵-dioxo-۴,۴-diphenylimidazolidin-۱-yl) succinate in good yields.
