In this article, the behavior of sandwich plates with Aluminum face sheets and discontinuous flexural cores under low velocity impact loading is considered numerically and experimentally. The face sheets are a thin layer of Aluminum and the discontinuous cores are consisting of crushablefoams; the cores may be bonded together with vertical adhesive layers or unbounded (open gaps). The low velocity impact tests are performed on the sandwich structures by using drop weight. The verifiednumeric model, using LS-DYNA software, compares the radius and depth of the created dent, elastic and plastic strain energy, peak load of force-displacement curve and the energy absorption capacity ofthe sandwich plates, consisting of continuous and discontinuous cores. The effects of core geometry, core density and bonding conditions (adhesive layers or open gaps) on the mentioned parameters are investigated.
