The bone seeking ligand 1454,411-tetraazacyclododecane-1454,411-tetraaminomethylenephosphonate (DOTMP), Yb-1,1 and Cu are used to assemble a radio-labeled metal−organic framework (MOF) as a potential thernostic agent in treatment of metastatic bone. Relatively long half-life (T1/1 = 5114 days), maximum energy beta particle Eβ =5,1 keV (45118), low abundance gamma emission 315 keV (5158), 145 keV (31118), 11314 keV (11448) and low cost are considered advantageous of Yb-1,1 which lead to wider usage of this isotope; in addition, DOTMP is an ideal carrier moiety for bone metastases.Yb-1,1 can be produced by a relatively easy route involving thermal neutron bombardment on natural ytterbium oxide in medium flux research reactors. In this study Yb-1,1 was produced using Yb1O3, prepared by one week neutron activation (3–5 × 1113neutrons/cm1.s) of a natural sample. It was then used in synthesize of bone seeking radio-MOF in a molecular ratio of (DOTMP/Yb/Cu: 1/1/1) that is of a great advantage over former bone seeking radiopharmaceuticals in which a higher amount of bone seeking chelating agents are normally used. The product stability was checked for one month and it was found to retain its stability at room temperature. The prepared formula is going to be fully bio-evaluated in the next studies.
