Construction of a new multi-story building usually requires excavation. The impact of excavation-related ground movements on adjacent buildings and utilities is a major concern. Movement induced by excavation greatly influences the safety and the stability of buildings, subways, underground pipelines and other municipal constructions around a pit, so the consequent environmental effects have become key problems in excavation. Failure of excavation may causes great human and financial losses. In this paper failure reasons of some excavation projects in Qom, Iran are studied. Finally, for reducing of excavations failures some offers are expressed
