Lobolly pine (Pinus Taeda L.) as a fast growing coniferous species was planted in northernIran about forty years ago to produce long fiber pulpwood for the production of paper pulp. Eventhough it was adapted to the local climate very well but due to some technical reasons the woodcould not be used for pulping. Therefore it has been intended to use this wood as lumber and miningpoles. Therefore understanding the characteristics of the wood specially fiber morphology andmechanical properties of the produced wood was foreseen and compared with the similar propertiesof the wood produced in its native growth region. Five trees were felled from two planatations innorth of Iran Pilambera, Gilan (36°36´3. N, 48°34´25. E) and Zaghmarz, Mazandaran (35°47´. N,50°34´. E). All test specimens were prepared from one bolt cut at the breast height and tested asdefined in ASTM D-143-94. The dry and green densities of the samples were measured as 0.36-0.37 g/cm3 and 0.34-0.36 g/cm3 respectively. The average MOR and MOE of the dry wood weremeasured as 31.4 MPa. and 5432.5 MPa. respectively. The average maximum compression paralleland perpendicular to the grain of the wood were 23.92 MPa. and 4.82 MPa. respectively.
