In this research, graphene oxide (GO) nanosheets synthesized via modified Hummers method are used as nanofiller in epoxy coatings and the effect of GO weight percent (wt. %) on the corrosionprotection behavior of epoxy coatings on mild steel substrates is investigated. The dispersion ofGO in epoxy coating is considered by field emission- scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and the corrosion protection performance of nanocomposite coatings is evaluated throughelectrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results show that GO wt. % (0.1, 0.3, 0.5 wt.%) is an important parameter in order to achieve a nanocomposite coating with maximum corrosion protection and improved GO dispersion in polymer coating. Although allnanocomposite coatings have significantly higher corrosion resistance than neat epoxy coating, epoxy coatings containing 0.1 wt. % GO show maximum corrosion protection. By increasing GOloading (0.3 and 0.5 wt. % GO) in epoxy coating, agglomeration of GO nanosheets and decreaseof corrosion protection is resulted, compared to nanocomposite coatings containing 0.1 wt. % GO. The improved corrosion resistance of nanocomposite coatings is assigned to barrier properties of GO nanosheets
