Background: Neonatal tumors are one of the main causes of admission in intensive care unit (NICU). However; neonatal malignancies are rare, they have been rising slightly in the past few decades. The rate of neonatal cancer incidence varies among different countries so epidemiological studies may lead to better understanding of predisposing factors. Objectives: This review has focused on elucidating the epidemiologic distribution of cancers among Iranian s neonate. Methods: A systematic review was undertaken using predefined search criteria on pubMed, scopus, Cochrane library and google scholar. Inclusion criteria of articles and data extraction were done by two independent researchers after review of abstracts and full text. Results: In primary search by determined key words 23 articles was appeared. Only 5 studies met the inclusion criteria. The rest studies were excluded because of methodology. In one of these studies neuroblastoma has been reported as the most frequent malignancy in neonate in the worldwide. The following frequent were leukemia and ALL in this study. Lukemia, lymphoma and CNS tumors have been considered as most frequent tumors in one of studies has been carried out in children 0 to 14 years in Iran. However, in northwest Iran leukemia, CNS tumors and neuroblastoma were the most prevalent childhood malignancies. In other study, teratoma has been considered as the most common cancer among neonate in Iran. The last study among five included articles, retinoblastoma, followed by leukemia and neuroblastoma were the most frequent malignancies of Iran. Conclusion: The number of reports from Iran regarding epidemiologic rate of cancer in neonatal period are rare. In only epidemiological study has been carried out in neonate of Iran, teratoma has been reported as the most common malignancy.
