Introduction: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the common reasons of death and disability all over theword. Atherosclerosis is an arterial disease which as a result of interaction between genetic and environmentalfactors, the susceptibility of people to CAD is determined.IL-10 is an anti-inflammatory cytokine that isassociated with atherosclerosis; Low levels of IL-10 resulted in extensive lesions and progression ofatherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the polymorphism (-592 C/A)(rs1800872) in IL-10 gene promoter and risk of atherosclerotic disease among Iranian population.Methods: A total of 157 subjects (77 CAD patients and 80 control patients) were included in this study.Polymorphism IL-10 gene was investigated via multiple amplification refractory mutation system polymerasechain reaction (Multiplex-ARMS-PCR)Results: The results showed that there is no significant relationship between the IL-10 promoter genepolymorphism (rs1800872) and atherosclerotic diseases (p> 0.05).Conclusion: Our results suggest that IL-10 polymorphism are not associated with an increased risk ofAtherosclerosis, But to achieve more reliable and validated results more samples are needed.
