خلاصه مقاله:
Background: Hepatitis infection is one of the serious health problems with several known and unknown impacts on the health issues. It seems that hepatitis B & C infection have negative impacts on the semen parameters and male infertility. Present study was performed to evaluate the impact of hepatitis B & C infection on semen parameters and male infertility among Iranian infertile men referring to Royan Institute infertility clinic during 2003 to 2014. Patients and Methods: The present case control study enrolled 112 HBV (Hepatitis B Virus) positive infertile men and 47 HCV (Hepatitis C Virus) positive infertile men as case group and 112 HBV & HCV negative matched infertile men as control group. All semen analyses were performed in Royan institute clinical laboratory according to WHO 2010 manual, with the same method and instruments.Result: Sperm count among infertile men of case group with HBV & HCV infection was significantly lower than control group (p<0.001). Total sperm motility also was significantly decreased in case group with HBV & HCV infection compared to control group (30.97±25.88, 31.09±28.72, 40.87±23.37, Respectively). The percentage of normal sperm morphology was significantly higher in control groups in compare with HBV & HCV-infected group (4.51±3.15, 3.23±3.27, 3.70±3.83, respectively). Although there is a significant decline in liquefaction time in case groups, but viscosity, semen volume and PH of semen samples had not significant differences between case and control groups. Conclusion: Chronic viral hepatitis B & C have negative impacts on sperm parameters of infertile men.
