Introduction Loss alveolar bone is a common phenomenon after extraction of teeth. One of the most effective method to regenerate damaged tissue is guided bone regeneration (GBR) application. GBR membrane allows spaces maintained by a barrier in order to regenerate new bone tissue. Due to the functions of the guided bone regeneration, these membranes should have special properties like similar physical properties to extracellular matrix (ECM) of natural bone, mechanical properties close to natural tissue and ability of osseointegration. Silk is one of the natural polymers which has many applications for tissue engineering. Some features like appropriatemechanical strength and toughnesshave made this polymer a good choice for this application. However, inability to osseointegration leads to development of nanocomposite membrences, based on silk. Laponite with chemicalcomposition , is one of the nanoclay which recently has been great considered for tissue engineering and biomedical applications. Thanks to its bioactivity, laponite revealed great osteogenesis making it a good candidate for GBR applications. Objectives The aim of this study was to develop nanocomposite fibrous membranes of silk-Laponit using electrospinning technique. In this research, the effects of various concentrations of laponite on the mechanical propertise and bioactivities of membranes were evaluated. Results Results showed that silk-laponite consisting of 5 wt, % laponite revealed the best mechanical properties. Moreover, increasing the laponite content resulted in the improved bioactivity of nanocomposite membrane
