AC electrified railways play a significant role in transportation between crowded city because of its fast ridership, reliability, efficiency, etc. However because of inherent nonlinear load of electric locomotives, they cause disturbances in power quality by injecting harmonics in distribution networks feeding the traction systems. In this paper, these harmonic disturbances in a single phase electrified railway network have been analyzed and the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), active power and reactive power in traction substations busbars according to train schedule have been investigated. The detailed simulation results from DIGSILENT program and recommendations are made for improvement of power quality
