خلاصه مقاله:
Introduction: Asthma is the most common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by chronic recurring symptoms and reversible airflow obstruction. Its symptoms include episodes of wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and dyspnea. Potential triggers of asthma include environmental factors such as exposure to air pollution and allergens and some medications (aspirin and beta blockers). The purpose of this study was to examine possible associations of polymorphisms of hsa-miR-17-92 rs3746444 genes and the risk of Asthma in the male population of Urmia in the north west of Iran. Materials and Methods: This case-control study was performed on 49 patients with Asthma as the case group and 52 blood samples from healthy men without a personal or family history of Asthma. The SNPs in miR-17-92 rs3746444 genes were evaluated by PCRRFLP method. Data were analyzed by SPSS 24 software. Results: Levels of miR-17-92 rs3746444 polymorphisms for AA and AG and GG genotypes were 22%, 45% and 33% in the patient group, and 12%, 52% and 36% in the control group, respectively. No significant associations were found between genes and the disease occurrence (P> 0.05). Patients with a family history showed significant associations between the disease incidence and the miR-17-92 rs3746444 gene revealed no significant association with the disease (P> 0.05). Conclusion: The results of this study showed that miR-17-92 rs3746444 polymorphisms are not significantly associated with the risk of Asthma. Moreover, these polymorphisms cannot be applied as a biomarker in prognostic diagnosis in the studied population.
