Removal COD of MDF Wastewater Treatment with Fenton Method by RSM Approach

The over-utilization of forest resources causes increase in its products and environmental impacts. Wood industries release wastewater containing high COD and color to water bodies. Thus an effective and economic method for treatment of this wastewater is unavoidable. One of methods is Fenton reagent that chemically is effective in treatment of industrial wastewater. In the present study, effect of three parameters such as, initial COD, initial solution pH and mole ratio of Fe2+/H2O2 on the COD removal from MDF wastewater has been investigated. The influence of aforementioned parameters on the COD removal was described using a response surface methodology (RSM) under central composite design (CCD). The optimum conditions for maximum COD removal from MDF wastewater under equilibrium conditions were found to be at initial pH 6 and a ratio 1:15 Fe2+/H2O2 for total initial COD studied. Experimental results showed that COD removal using Fenton reagent was efficient. A maximum removal of the total initial COD were 75% for desirable ratio of 1:15 Fe2+/H2O2.
