Performance Review of Social Security Organization in Providing Health and Welfare of Society with Emphasis on Iran

Most of people were suffering from poverty and unsuitable conditions for years when Downturn of economics occurred. Only five percent of old individuals were pensioners in USA. Before the social security was founded, there were three choices for labors: they have worked till they passed away or they were worked until fired by employer or they were retired. The policy of employment at the period of economic crisis was, decreasing salary with less responsibility. In USA weak and poor ones were sent to poorhouses where enough and necessary facilities and services have not been offered. Social security organization was founded in USA when the country had suffered from economic crisis. In fact this organization was formed to support of poor people. Considering the importance of Social Security Organization in providing welfare and health for people, this article has tried to study of performance of SSO especially in different aspects (economic and social) in Iran. The research revealed the SSO has the more important role to provide relevant services than many other organizations and insurance companies that offer similar services. Major performance of Social Security Organization is divided into two fundamental sections: insurance services and health services. Each section offers a variety of services to insured and their families. These services have very important effects in providing health and welfare for insured and their families in the present and in the future. Considering expectations of people, all economic, political and socials systems try to develop and standardize social security services. Hence, SSO in Iran is an inevitable necessity and as a priority has to be considered.
