Urban Innovation Systems

It is clear that throughout history, cities have played an important role in the social and economic development of countries. Cities are effective and efficient elements for the growth of the national economy, as well as the production of resources needed for public and private investment in infrastructure, education and health, improving living conditions and reducing poverty. Cities are facing increasing problems, especially in developing countries. Due to limited financial resources, city officials face many challenges, from garbage collection processes to the need to create new industries that can only be solved through innovative and new solutions. In contrast to the mentioned tensions and problems, the capacities and abilities of creativity and problem solving in cities are unique, as, most cities are described as the cradle of creativity and as an innovative environment. Cities are hot springs for new ideas and tests of innovation. Thus, cities are the center of flow of opportunities and threats. Therefore, it is expected that the establishment of an appropriate system of urban innovation, given the specific conditions in each city, will make it possible to turn challenges into opportunities.Hence, this study examines the importance and status of Urban Innovation Systems.
