Viewpoint of clinical personnel in Rasht Ghaem international Hospital about the effectiveness of hospital information system on caring processes

Introduction: Hospital information system can improve the quality of health care services and decrease the expenses.This study investigated the viewpoint of clinical personnel about the effectiveness of Hospital Information System on some medical activities Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 120 nurses and secretaries in Rasht Ghaem International Hospital in 1399. The data collection tool was a researcher-made questionnaire that its validity is confirmed by experts, and reliability assessment based on Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: Most of the personnel (81.5%) were using their ward’s computer systems several times a day. They agreed with availability of appropriate health care information (60%), easier to search prescribed medicines (50%), reduction of errors (40.6%), better supervision on patients treatment process (22%) and improvement of treatment results by using information systems (16%). There was a significant relation between the personnel satisfaction with HIS effectiveness on the patient caring process and the satisfaction with user-friendliness of the systems and the medicalward (p = 0.05). Conclusion: The result of present study indicate the positive effect of using HIS in promoting patient care; however, disadvantages such as re-work and system- related problems were also. Therefore, it is recommended to use new technologies such as portable PCs connected to the Hospital Information system to facilitate data entry and developing legal methods to prevent redundancy in nurses daily activities.
