Development an online information dashboard to control the nurse to patient ratio in clinical wards by the hospital nursing management

One of the most important tasks of hospital nursing management, especially in the field of supervisors in the evening and night shifts is to know the status of nursing staff and adapt it to the number of patients in all wards of the hospital. The present study was conducted to establish the relevant infrastructure in Imam Reza Hospital Complex. Methods: The present study was performed by action research method in Imam Reza (AS) Hospital in Mashhad. During the participatory action research process, first the research team was formed with the participation of the nursing director, two hospital supervisors, the head of the hospital HIS unit, two software experts for software development and one health information management expert. Accepted: Determining the underlying problem was planning, interpreting, and analyzing the data. Which led to the creation of an information dashboard.Results: Planning to create an online dashboard to access patient and nurse data was done according to JAD meetings held with participants. Minimum dashboard data included number of patients, ward name, number of nurses, number of patients divided by nurse, number of intubated patients. The type of reports and corrections requested by the head nurses were also determined and included in the relevant dashboard. Finally, a link was established between the dashboard and the hospital HIS.Conclusion: Applied dashboards for fulfilling the tasks of nursing management in the field of control and proportionality of the number of manpower in the wards have a very important role in improving the quality of services in the hospital. In the evening and night shifts, based on the volume of care for clients in the wards can play an important role in improving the quality of nursing care.
