Hippotherapy fields and applications (According to “National Protocol Infrastructure for Hippotherapy”)

The main idea of this article is that despite various books and researches inmaster's and Ph.D. degrees in the field of hippotherapy and two years ofexperience in Iran, it is still not considered using this treatment method forrehabilitation to treat some diseases.Hippotherapy refers to the use of the movement of the horse as a treatment toolby physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language therapists toaddress impairments, functional limitations, and disabilities in clients withneuromusculoskeletal dysfunction, such as cerebral palsy. Hippotherapy is usedas part of an integrated treatment program to achieve functional outcomes.Hippotherapy engages the client in activities on the horse that are enjoyable andchallenging. In the controlled hippotherapy environment, the therapist modifiesthe horse's movement and carefully grades sensory input, establishing afoundation for improved neurologic function and sensory processing.
