Laser shock peening (LSP) is a modern technique that can be used to improve fatigue life by inducing compressive residual stresses on the surface of peened parts. One of the main procedures used to improve fatigue life of parts with stress concentration points is to generate compressive residual stresses (RS) on locations with maximum stresses. The main objective of this paper is to show the effect of LSP around a hole in a ۵mm thickness AA۷۰۷۵-T۶ sheet on RS and surface roughness and consequently improve fatigue life using both finite element technique and experimental results. LSP parameter, i.e. overlap percentage is considered. Slitting method is used to determine the effect of LSP on residual stresses. The results show that elaborate application of LSP could efficiently be used for stress concentration points and improve fatigue strength
