Aftershocks Study of the ۲۶ December ۲۰۰۳ Bam Earthquake

From ۲۹ December to ۳۰ January, a dense seismological network of ۲۰ stations surrounding the epicentral area of the ۲۶ December ۲۰۰۳ Bam earthquake was installed to study the seismic activity that took place after the main shock. The aftershock distribution is consistent with a ۳۰ km north-south striking fault. The focal depths distribution shows a nearly vertical alignment of aftershocks located between ۶ to ۲۰ km depth. The focal mechanism solutions indicate right lateral strike slip faulting on N-S trending fault, parallel to the Bam fault trace. However, there is a small offset of about ۵km westward between the Bam fault trace and the aftershocks distribution.
