The Incidence of Ameloblastoma among Multilocular Radiolucent Lesions in Posterior Region of Mandible

Background: Ameloblastoma is a highly recurrence odontogenic tumor occurring in both jaws. This study aimed at investigating the demographic data, radiographic and histopathological features of ameloblastoma.Methods: Patients diagnosed with ameloblastoma between ۲۰۱۸ and ۲۰۲۰ were retrospectively analyzed. Demographic data, clinical signs, and symptoms, radiological and histopathological data records were collected.Results: ۵۰ patients diagnosed with ameloblastoma, of which ۲۵ patients were male, and ۲۵ were female, The age range obtained was ۱۲ to ۷۶ years, with a mean age of ۳۶ years. Most lesions were observed in the white race (۵۶.۳%), followed by the black race (۴۳.۷%). ۴۸ cases (۹۴.۷%) were detected in the lower jaw and ۲ (۵,۳%) cases in the upper jaw. The ratio of maxilla to mandible was ۱:۲۵. Multilocular imaging was presented in ۲۸ cases (۵۹.۳%), monolocular in ۲۰ cases (۳۷.۵%), and ۲ of which were peripheral ameloblastoma (۳.۲%). The plexiform pathological pattern was the predominant type.
