Biological Effects of Lavender Alcoholic Extract on Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant diseases and the second cause of death among women in the world, and according to statistics, one in every ۱۲ people suffers from breast cancer. Lavender extract has shown therapeutic impacts on various cancers. Therefore, we assessed the biological effects of the alcoholic extract of lavender on MCF-۷ cell line. In the current study, the MCF-۷ cell line selected for treatment with lavender extract. Cell proliferation and cell viability were investigated in the presence of various concentrations of lavender extract by MTT-method. Moreover, the effect of alcoholic extract of lavender on BAX expression was evaluated using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRTPCR). Cell proliferation and cell viability studies represented anticancer characteristics of dose-dependent lavender extract. Additionally, the alcoholic extract of lavender led to the increased expression of BAX in MCF-۷ cell line. According to our findings, alcoholic extract of lavender can be suggested as a novel anticancer product to inhibit the growth of breast cancer cells.
