Effect of an educational package on quality of life and acute complications in renal transplantation recipients

Background: Chronic renal failure patients face new challenges in taking care of themselves after a renal transplant. This treatment method alters quality of life and leads to multiple complications. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the educational package on QoL and the complications of renal transplant in these patients.Methods: clinical trial was conducted on ۷۲ using continuous sampling. Educational package comprised of five sessions. Educational booklet and weekly telephone calls then Eight weeks after the intervention. QoL questionnaire and the renal transplant complications checklist were used. Data analysis was done by SPSS ۲۶.Results: Samples were (۴۳%) female and (۵۷%) male and The mean age was ۴۳.۶۹ years. Results indicated that the physical dimension of the test group significantly differed from control group (p=۰.۰۰۲). But the effect size was ۰.۷ (significant effect). Regarding the acute complications of transplantation in the section of paraclinical symptoms of infection with p = ۰.۰۴, a statistically significant difference was observed between the two groups. Re-admission and transplant rejection did not differ (p>۰.۰۵).Conclusions: The educational package affected all the dimensions of QoL, especially the physical dimension and infection –as an acute complication of renal transplant and raised QoL and reduced infection. Therefore, it can be considered for use at the bedside in management plans.
