چکیده مقاله:

Background: Breast cancer (BC) is a leading cause of cancer related deathworldwide. Unfortunately, data concerning clinicopathologic features of thismalignancy in non-developed countries is scarce. This study aims to characterize acohort of Guatemalan female patients with non-metastatic BC and to determinerisk factors for overall survival (OS). Methods: We retrieved data on consecutive patients from the InstitutoGuatemalteco de Seguridad Social that were treated from ۲۰۰۸ to ۲۰۱۴. Clinicalfeatures and long-term outcomes were retrieved from medical records. Univariateand multivariate Cox regression analyses were conducted to identify variablesassociated with OS. Results: ۹۵۴ BC patients were identified during the time frame. A total of ۴۳۶women (۴۶%) were younger than ۵۰ years old. BC molecular subtypes categorized۵۳۷ patients (۵۶.۳%) with luminal A disease, ۱۸۶ (۱۹.۵%) patients with triplenegative tumors, ۱۵۳ cases (۱۶.۱%) with HER-۲ enriched tumors, and ۷۸ patients(۸.۲%) with luminal B tumors. Clinical stage at presentation was stage I: ۴.۷%(n=۴۵); stage II: ۴۸.۱% (n=۴۵۹), and stage III: ۴۷.۲% (n=۴۵۰). The overall ۵-yearsurvival rate was ۷۵.۲% (۹۵% Confidence Interval: ۷۲.۰–۷۸.۳). In the multivariateanalysis clinical stage, triple negative tumors and HER۲ enriched tumors wereindependently associated with poor survival. Conclusion: The majority of patients with non-metastatic BC are diagnosedwith advanced disease and many of them are younger than ۵۰ years old. OS in thiscohort of Guatemalan patients is lower than that reported in developed countries.
