A Study into Structural, Executive, and Aesthetic Properties of Different Types of Folded Plate Structures and Their Advantages

Folded plate structures are among efficient and unique structural systems. These structures can be classified as shells from different perspectives. They play a key role in increasing the load bearing and strength of structures and create unique aesthetic visual characteristics in them. Various forms of such structures allow for using them in ceilings and load-bearing side walls. In general, such structures can be observed in different cases, from the large entrance and exit doors of garages, repair shops, and industrial sheds to huge structures like exhibition halls, conference halls, stadiums, churches, and train and bus stations. Numerous structures, including Saint Rita Church, Cadet Chapel, UNESCO conference hall, George Washington Bridge Bus Station, and Institute of Philosophy at the University of Berlin, have been constructed using this system.
