CRISPR-mediated gene-edited farm animals at theFLI in Germany

For farm animals such as cattle, pigs, horses and sheep, informativegene maps are now available that form the basis forthe development of new breeding concepts and targeted geneticmodifications. The discovery of the CRISPR/Cas system andits adaption as a tool for gene editing in mammalian cells hasdramatically changed the capabilities of scientists to alter thegenome of farm animals. Genome editing in farm animals hasa variety of applications for agriculture, biomedicine and basicresearch.
