Social support in adolescents with unwanted pregnancy: Areview

Background: Unwanted Pregnancy in adolescents can create a negative impact onadolescents who experience it. Management of Unwanted Pregnancy by providing social supportare needed to reduce the perceived impact. So, the present study was designed to investigate theSocial Support in Adolescents with Unwanted Pregnancy. Methods: The present study was areview study designed in ۲۰۲۲. The search was conducted in international and national databases,including Scientific Information Database (SID), PubMed and Scopus, using the followingkeywords: “Social Support”, “Adolescents” and “Unwanted Pregnancy”. Summaries of articlespublished in congresses and conferences were excluded from the study. Initially, ۱۱ articles inEnglish or Persian were finally evaluated. Results: The review of various studies showed that therewere ۱۰ types of social support that can be provided to adolescents who experience UnwantedPregnancy. The types of social support were providing information, counseling, communication,emotional support, assistance, accountability, financial support, appreciation, providing shelterand providing educational facilities. Conclusion: Different results showed that social support suchas counseling, communication, emotional support, and financial support can be provided toadolescents experiencing an unwanted pregnancy. Recommendations for further research areexpected to do a further analysis on types of social support that has been found, so that it can beimplemented to reduce the impact on adolescents with Unwanted Pregnancy
