چکیده مقاله:

Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) risk factors in ۶-۱۸-year-old students in Birjand, east of Iran.Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed on ۴۱۸۲ students, including ۲۰۸۶ females and ۲۰۹۶ males, in two age groups of ۶-۱۱ and ۱۲-۱۸ years. In order to pinpoint overweight and obesity in them, the percentiles presented by the Centre for Diseases Control (CDC) were applied. Percentiles equal to or greater than ۹۰ were considered as high blood pressure or abnormal. Fast blood sugar over ۱۰۰ mg/dl, total cholesterol over ۲۰۰ mg/dl, LDL over ۱۳۰ mg/dl, HDL over ۴۰ mg/dl and triglyceride more than ۱۰۰ mg/dl and ۱۳۰ mg/dl for ages of ۶-۹ and ۱۰-۱۸ years, were regarded as abnormal values. Data was analyzed by SPSS Software (V. ۱۶), using T-test and X۲ at the significance level of ۰.۰۵.Results: The prevalence of selected CVD risk factors for the age groups of ۶-۱۱ and ۱۲-۱۸ years were ۹.۵% and ۷.۳% for overweight, ۹.۲% and ۸.۲% for obesity, ۱۵.۷% and ۱۶.۳% for abdominal obesity, ۱۱.۲% and ۴.۶% for diastolic hypertension, ۲۱.۸% and ۱۰.۱% for systolic hypertension, respectively. The prevalence rates were found to be ,respectively, ۴.۷% and ۷.۵% for high blood glucose, %۱۳.۴ and ۶.۱% for high cholesterol, ۸.۵% and ۳.۵% for high LDL, ۱۵.۳% and ۱۴% for high triglycerides, and ۱۱.۳% and ۲۴.۷% for low HDL levels, in the two age groups of ۶-۱۱ and ۱۲-۱۸ years.Conclusions: This study shows a high prevalence of CVD risk factors in children and adolescents of Birjand.
