In this paper, an active suspension system actuated by a hydraulic actuator is designed for a vehicle subject to sinusoidal road disturbances and a full car model is used to simulate the behavior of the vehicle. System stability is also verified by the Lyapunov method. Full state vector feedback and LQR control strategies are implemented to control the system and results are compared and discussed. Simulation results show that using LQR optimal control can reduce the disturbances applied to the car body in addition to optimizing energy consumption.
