Assessment of MOB۱A and B gene polymorphisms in oral lichen planus patients

Background: This study aimed to assess MOB۱A and B gene polymorphisms in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP. Several of premalignant lesions such as, leukoplakia, erythroplakia, oral lichen planus (OLP), and submucosal fibrosis can undergo malignant transformation and lead to oral cancer and non-invasive screening of patients to find those susceptible to SCC before progression to cancer would be highly beneficial.Materials and Methods: This case-control study was conducted on ۳۵ OLP patients and ۳۵ healthy controls presenting to the Oral Medicine Department of Zahedan Dental School ۲۰۱۵ -۲۰۱۷. Unstimulated saliva samples were collected from both groups, and MOB۱A and B gene polymorphisms were assessed by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). The two groups were compared by the Chi-square test (alpha=۰.۰۵).Results: Two groups had no significant difference in the frequency of T and G alleles for MOB۱A gene polymorphisms. (P>۰.۰۵) and either two groups had no significant difference in the frequency of A and C alleles for MOB۱B gene polymorphism's (P>۰.۰۵).Conclusion: The present results showed no significant difference between the case and control groups regarding MOB۱A and B gene polymorphisms; thus, MOB۱A and B gene polymorphisms do not appear to play a role in the pathogenesis of OLP.
