Vehicle communication has the potential to significantly improve the automotive industry's future. In many countries, vehicular accidents cause substantial annual damages that can be mitigated through the use of vehicle communication technologies. This article proposes the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as a communication platform between vehicles. Due to the limited range and low reliability of dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) in densely populated networks, UAVs have been suggested as a viable alternative. The use of drones offers increased capacity, range, and network density. The proposed UAV communication system involves a vehicle transmitting a message via uplink to the nearest UAV, which then relays the message to the intended recipient vehicle via downlink. We modeled road segments using Poisson line processing and evaluated vehicle positions using the Poisson point processing method. We investigated the mean local delay in UAV transmission and the effective transfer rate as performance metrics. Analytical results were evaluated using numerical examples, demonstrating the effects of different system parameters on UAV performance. Specifically, the average local delay represents the number of attempts made to successfully transmit a packet. We then analyzed V۲V rate by increasing the minimum rate demand, followed by an analysis of how UAVs aid in V۲V communication.
