An analysis of how mounting bolt numbers affect the life of refractory plates in steel ladle sliding gate systems is presented in this article. In order to ensure the safe and efficient operation of steel mills, these systems must be properly installed and maintained. Uneven pressure distribution and increased wear and damage to refractory materials can be caused by too few or too many mounting bolts. As well as providing examples of recommended mounting bolt numbers in industry standards, this article discusses how to determine the optimal number of mounting bolts for optimum plate life. Besides the temperature of molten steel, other factors that affect refractory plate life include the maintenance and cleaning of the slide gate system. Manufacturers of steel slide gate systems can maximize their slide gate system's operational lifespan by adopting a proactive maintenance and cleaning schedule.
