Investigating Approaches to Automatic License Plate Recognition Using Data Mining

Automatic license plate recognition is a technology that, using a combination of machine vision and machine learning algorithms, is able to detect and recognize car license plates from images. This technology is used in various areas, including public security, public parking, traffic management and traffic law enforcement. The way automatic license plate recognition works is that a car vision camera is usually installed at a strategic point on the road or entry/exit gate. This camera receives images from passing cars and then extracts the license plate image. After extracting the license plate image, machine learning algorithms are used to read and recognize the license plate. In this article, various data mining methods in automatic and intelligent license plate recognition will be reviewed and compared.
