Urmia metropolitan area is located in the west of the structural depression of Urmia in the middle part of the Alpine-Himalayan orogenic and seismic belt in the collision zone of the Arabian, Eurasian and Anatolian crusts. Investigations show that there is a dominant right-wing movement with a northwest-southeast stretch over the entire region. The rate of sliding in the east of the region is ۶ mm and in the west ۸ mm per year. In this research, the mechanism of morphoneotectonic phenomena on the environmental stability of Urmia morpolitan area has been analyzed and investigated. The basis of work is numerous geological, geophysical, remote sensing and field observation data. The method used is spatial analysis. The aim of this research is to analyze the active geomorphoneotectonic deformation systems affecting the stability of the morphostructure of study area. The findings of the research show that the continuation of severe tectonic deformations in Urmia urban area has caused tectonic interaction consisting of normal faults and fault morphogenesis system as horst and graben landforms. The results make it clear that several landslides have occurred in the area of the Sir Daghi block. The results of visual and field analyzes show that the city of Urmia is not on the bed of the fan alluvial, but on a depressed surface of erosion-fault in the foothill area so, formed on the bed of the landslide. the findings of the research show that the southwestern region of Urmia is the most vulnerable place to natural hazards (earthquakes, landslides, and faults). This area has a magnitude of ۵ on the Richter scale. The findings show that the landslides are the dominant phenomenon of the region, so the active geodynamics of faults and landslide movements and erosion play an important role in environmental stability of Urmia metropolitan area.
