Hsa-miR-۲۷a-۳p as a candidate diagnostic andtherapeutic biomarker in breast cancer based on system biologyapproach

Introduction: Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. MicroRNAs are thename of small non-coding molecules family that play a pivotalrole in gene expression. In this study we present a systems biologyapproach to screening biomarkers from microRNAs familyfor the diagnosis of breast cancer.Materials and Methods: An initial set of miRNA expressionwas retrieved from the NCBI GEO database. Differentially expressedmiRNA and genes were obtained by GEO۲R tool. Geneontology and functional enrichment analysis were performedby using miRDIPV۴.۱ tool. By using topological and Subgraphanalysis, significant miRNA and associated transcriptionfactors in the global miRNA-gene network were identified.Results: We identified ۴ hub miRNAs and one of the novelmiRNAs, hsa-miR-۲۷a-۳p displayed the highest scores and wasselected as a potential candidate biomarker for breast cancerdiagnosis. The biological functions such as modulation of apoptosis-related proteins expression and promotion of cell proliferationare associated and targeted by hsa-miR-۲۷a-۳p is thecrucial step in the therapeutic use for breast cancer.Conclusion: Finally, the hsa-miR-۲۷a-۳p could be employed asa potential biomarker for diagnostic and therapeutic implicationin breast cancer.
