Introduction: As the elderly population grows globally, enhancing healthcare services for this demographic has become paramount. In this context, the role of big data in revolutionizing and optimizing self-care practices among the elderly has garnered significant attention. This review article systematically examines the intricate interplay between big data and elderly self-care, aiming to elucidate its potential across diverse domains, such as health monitoring, personalized interventions, predictive analytics, and decision support systems.The objective of this study is to comprehensively analyze the multifaceted influence of big data on shaping elderly self-care practices, leading to improved health outcomes and quality of life.Methods: To achieve this objective, an extensive literature search was conducted across various databases, including PubMed, Scopus, using relevant keywords such as "big data," "elderly," "self-care," "health monitoring," "personalized interventions," and "data analytics."Results: The results of this review demonstrate the transformative power of big data in facilitating proactive and personalized self-care strategies for the elderly. By harnessing data from wearable devices, electronic health records, and social media platforms, big data empowers individuals to take a more active role in managing their health. Early anomaly detection, individualized health recommendations, and chronic disease management are some of the prominent outcomes facilitated by the integration of big data. The potential challenges and limitations of implementing big data in elderly self-care are also deliberated upon, along with the need for multidisciplinary collaboration between healthcare professionals, data scientists, and policymakers to ensure the responsible use of big data.Conclusion: This review study underscores the pivotal role of big data in revolutionizing elderly self-care practices. By amalgamating data-driven insights with healthcare strategies, big data offers a promising avenue to empower seniors in taking proactive steps toward maintaining their health and well-being. As we tread further into the digital age, the judicious and ethical utilization of big data has the potential to usher in a new era of personalized and effective self-care for the elderly population.
