Pollen micromorphology and ultrastructure of Tulipa

In this study, micromorphological characteristics and ultrastructure of pollen grains of Tulipa juliaK.Koch were evaluated by light microscope (LM), scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmissionelectron microscope (TEM). Based on the results, the quantitative micromorphological characteristicswere determined such as the length of equatorial axis and polar axis, shape (Oblate-spheroidal) and size ofpollen grain (medium), exine ornamentation (Rugulate-striate) and intine ornamentation (Tuberculate) indifferent parts of pollens. In terms of ultrastructure, the thickness of the components of the pollen grainwall (exine layer including Tectum, length and width of Columellae, Foot layer and intine layer) wasmeasured. Also, no endexine layer was observed in the mentioned species. According to the informationobtained from the results of this study, the palynological characteristics of the studied taxon are uniqueand potentially have taxonomic value.
