In this paper a nonlinear model by an optimalstabilizing controller is proposed for weak/islanded grids using aunified power quality conditioner (UPQC). The UPQC can beemployed to stabilize a grid-tie inverter (GTI) or a synchronousgenerator (SG) with minimum control effort. The research aims atusing advanced controller to get the oscillation reduction andstability achievement in the micro-grid. Here, to design an optimalgrid stabilizer, the robust sliding mode controller based UPFC isemployed. This study presents a comparative study of transientstability in micro-grid system under different loads. Simulationresults reflect the robustness of the proposed sliding modecontroller (SMC) for oscillation reduction in comparison withLyapunov-based nonlinear optimal controller and PI controller.In addition, results show the effectiveness of the proposednonlinear controller in controlling both GTI and SG in micro-gridsystem.
