Exploring Prevalence of Academic Stress among Adolescents Studying in Government, Private and Residential Colleges in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh

The present study exploring prevalence of academic stress among adolescents studying in government, private and residential colleges in west Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. The total sample consisted ۶۰۳ adolescents (Boys = ۲۸۸, Girls = ۳۱۵). Students’ Academic Stress Scale (SASS) developed by KIM (۱۹۷۰) and it adapted to Indian conditions by R. Rajendran and K.V. Kaliappan (۱۹۹۱) and a demographic questionnaire developed by the researcher was administered. The data were obtained and analyzed by means of t-test, ANOVA and Post-Hoc test. The results indicated that adolescents are prone to academic stress and are influenced by personal correlates such as religion, type of college, Telugu medium, Senior Intermediate, those living in hostels and also parents working conditions and low socio – economical status.
