Comparison of Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies in Patients with Schizophrenia and Normal People

Introduction: Schizophrenia is a psychological disorder with an unknown cause and various manifestations, which is characterized by two positive and negative symptoms. The present study was conducted by comparing cognitive emotion regulation strategies in patients with schizophrenia disorders and normal individuals. Methods: The research method was descriptive and causal-comparative. The statistical population were schizophrenic patients referred to public and private clinics in Zahedan city and also normal people living in this city in ۲۰۲۳. The sample of the study was ۱۵ schizophrenic patients and ۱۵ normal people who were selected by available sampling method. To collect the data, the Cognitive Emotional Regulation (CER) questionnaire was used. The obtained data were analyzed with statistical methods of multivariate analysis of variance with SPSS ۲۵ software. Results: The results showed that schizophrenic people use maladaptive emotion regulation styles more than normal people (P<۰.۰۵) and there is no significant difference in the use of adaptive emotion regulation styles between two groups (P>۰.۰۵). Conclusion: These findings show that emotion regulation probably plays an important role in the pathology of schizophrenia and can be an important therapeutic goal in the treatment and rehabilitation of these patients.
