چکیده مقاله:

Knowledge of learners' brain function can help teachers and curriculum designers use more effective teaching procedures. For this reason, this study investigated brain dominance and metacognitive strategies usage of Iranian EFL learners. The study aimed at whether right or left brain dominance use more Meta cognitive strategies for their learning process. The participants consist of fifty females and males Iranian EFL learners at intermediate level at Jahad language school. The class was randomly selected. Participations were analyzed by Hemispheric Dominance Inventory Test to figure out which part is more active. After hemispheric dominance questionnaire were done, the learners in experimental group were divided into right-hemisphere and left-hemisphere groups. Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) was administered to identify the language learning strategies used by the same participants. The data obtained through the questionnaires were analyzed on the computer by using SPSS statistical program. Results concerned with the relationship between brain dominance and language learning strategies indicated that there is a relationship between brain dormice and metacognitive strategies usage. Analyzing results show that when group membership goes up from ۱ to ۲, from right brain to left brain, metacognitive strategies actually decreases so it was realized that right brain hemisphere use more meta cognitive strategies.
