Examining the role of family marriage in the occurrence of congenital anomalies

Introduction: According to the prophetic hadiths, marriage is one of the divine traditions that leads to thepeace of man and the completion of faith. Consanguineous marriage is a common and long - standing socialhabit among the people of East Asia, especially among Iranians. This type of marriage includes people whohave at least one common ancestor in the last four generations. It is known that consanguineous marriagesincrease the risk of disorders and increase the risk of congenital abnormalities. Considering the abundance ofthis type of marriage and its consequences in Iran, the present study was designed as a review.Methods: The present study is a summary review that was used in ۲۰۲۳ to search for articles related to the topicfrom three databases " SID, Google scholar, Pubmed ". The selected keywords included " consanguineousmarriage, disease, abnormality, congenital ". The inclusion of the study included the availability of the full textof quality articles and the output included articles published in conferences or conventions. At first, ۳۰ articleswere selected, and after duplicate removal and entry and exit qualities, ۱۰ articles were finally reviewed.Results: According to several researches that were conducted in relation to a disease of many people such ashearing loss in babies or mental retardation or low IQ and other known diseases with family marriage, theprobability of disease and abnormality increases with family marriage. So, he specifically chose and studied oneof the common diseases among children who were the result of consanguineous marriage and found that themost common congenital heart disease is " VSD". After examining the case of children hospitalized in a hospital,we came to the conclusion that family marriage can be one of the factors causing congenital disease.Conclusion: As we know, in addition to environmental factors, genetic factors also play a role in causing diseaseconsanguineous marriage is a strong risk factor for congenital malformations. Therefore, it is necessary toeducate and inform people to prevent the occurrence of congenital abnormalities, and it is necessary to carryout genetic counseling before marriage not only for related couples, but for all couples, especially those whohave a family history of congenital disease.
