Fiber Consumption in Colorectal Cancer: A Narrative Review

چکیده مقاله:

Introduction: colorectal cancer (CRC) is second common cancer worldwide, CRC is the second and fourthmost common cancer Iranian women and men, respectively. So far, scattered studies had been conducted on therelationship between fiber-based diet and CRC, and studies have reached results on the relationship betweenfiber consumption and CRC prevention, but the relationship between fiber consumption and the quality of lifeof CRC patient is still being studiedOur article aimed to review studies that reveal an association between fiber consumption with prevention ofcolorectal cancer and quality of life for CRC patients.Methods: We search PubMed, Scopus and google scholar keywords such as “fiber intake”, “fiberconsumption”, “colorectal cancer” and quality of life and time limit from ۲۰۲۰ to December ۲۰۲۳. We found۴۸ relevant articles and finally after screening, ۱۱ articles based on our criteria included in our review.Results: Fiber consumption has been investigated in different studies in specific stages, in the stage of colorectalcancer prevention, a strong relationship between fiber consumption from different sources such as whole grainsand its prevention has been found, as well as studies to investigate the relationship between fiber consumptionfrom different sources and quality of life. people with colorectal cancer and it was found that the consumptionof fiber can significantly reduce their fatigue in people who have been treated and improve the physicalperformance and role of people (the ability to perform daily activities) and in general their quality of life, butno correlation was found between fiber consumption and gastrointestinal symptoms and chemotherapy-inducedneuropathyConclusion: the evidence of our study revealed various aspects of an association between fiber consumptionand reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. As a limitation, there is no sufficient evidence and more study Morestudies should be done to clarify the mechanism of prevention of colorectal cancer by fiber consumption
