The prevalence of HSV۲ antibodies in blood donors in city of Kerman During the Year ۲۰۰۲

Herpes simplex virus infection is almost universal.this virus has two types:HSV۱ and HSV۲ infect about ۵۰۰/۰۰۰ persons annually in the united states,and its prevalence rate has increased during the past decade.Usually HSV۱ spreads through kissing or casual contact and HSV۲ through sexual intercourses.HSV۱ is more frequently associated with oral infection and HSV۲ can cause recurrent genital ulcers.Nodata is available about HSV۲ prevalence in Iran.this study was conducted to determine the prevalence of HSV۲ antibodies in blood donors in city of Kerman During the Year ۲۰۰۲.Data were collected in a cross-sectional study in ۹۶۶ serum samples.in this study the population were  examined for oro-facial and genital herpes.In this servaey age,sex,job,eduction,marrital status,family history of oro-facial and genital herpes of the population were considered.antibody (IgG)of HSV۲ was assessed by using ELISA in this study.About ۲.۷%of the population were  seropositive for HSV۲ (۲.۸% were male and ۲.۶% were female.).None of them have had clinical genital herpes during examination but about ۱.۱%(۱۱ of ۹۶۶) of them have had previous history of clinical genital herpes.the population have been examined for HSV۱Ab.HBSAb. and HCVAb, and the results were also negative.the prevalence of HSV۲ had a significant trend of increasing with increase in age.
